We are proud to feature this premium hand-made line of cigars. Pronounced Tah-to-ah-hey, Tatuaje means tatoo in Spanish. Produced by Pete Johnson.
Started in 2003, Tatuaje is the brainchild of Pete Johnson. With years in the industry, he knew what he was looking for when he decided to create a cuban style cigar. When he met José Pepin Garcia and started blending, he knew he was on to something special. The story since then has been nothing short of magic.
These cigars are manufactured by hand in the cuban style, including a beautiful triple cap. The construction is superb. If you've traveled abroad and have had the fortune of smoking cuban cigars, you will immediately recognize the similarities, from the construction to the blending.
There are 4 lines in the Tatuaje brand, all blended by Pete Johnson.
The first and most exclusive line is
La Seleccion de Cazador, referred to as the Cabinet Selection, as well as the more colloquial 'Brown Label'. These are produced in Miami by a select group of rollers dedicated to this line. Corojo wrappers encase a full bodied blend of Nicaraguan filler. Six vitolas were rated 90-93 by Cigar Aficionado between 2004-2006. With seven standard vitolas with additional Reserva vitolas, there are many favorites to discover!
Cabaiguan - pronounced kah-bei-gWAHN, is named after a city in northern Sancti Spiritus province of Cuba. It is a medium bodied cuban style cigar, but we would consider it even stronger - especially towards the finish. A Connecticut seed Shade Grown Ecuadorian wrapper gives this cigar a burst of flavor and spice before lighting and mixes with the Nicaraguan blend of filler for an extremely flavorful smoke. Pepin's son, Jaime, worked with Pete during the blending process to produce this beauty. Four vitolas (with another one on the way) provide another source of conflict between your friends over which one is their favorite. We like them all! Cabaiguan is also produced exclusively at the Miami factory.
Havana VI was created in 2006 and boasts six vitolas (thus the VI in the name). Referred to as the 'Red Label', the band duplicates the classic Cabinet band in red. It is made in Esteli Nicaragua at the Tabacalera Cubana factory. It is medium to full bodied and is truly a Nicaraguan Puro, consisting of Nicaraguan filler, binder and wrapper. The Angeles recently received a 93 rating in Cigar Aficianado. The Exclusivo Verocu No.1 and No.2 will add 2 more special vitolas to the line in 2007 - one sold exclusively in the Eastern states, and one sold exclusively in the Western half of the U.S. About the Verocu, Pete says "This blend will have a Cafe Rosado Oscuro wrapper (as opposed to the
Cafe Rosado in the Havana VI classic line) and we are adding Ligero
tobacco to the blend to give the cigar a more robust taste. Basically,
it’s a Havana VI on steroids".
Series P was created in 2006 and features four vitolas, all made in the "cuban sandwich" style using both long and medium fillers. Medium bodied, all Nicaraguan tobacco. It is made in Esteli Nicaragua at the Tabacalera Cubana factory. Also referred to as the "White Label", it is packed in boxes of 31, further transferring the value of this quality smoke. Some people say they are their 'every day' cigar. We believe every day is worthy of a great cigar, and this one more than fits the qualities of an every day or a special occasion smoke.
Tatuaje cigars are made by José Pepin Garcia, at the El Rey de los Habanos factory in Miami,
and at Tabacalera Cubana in Nicaragua.
